Attended a demonstrator refresher day in Solihull, met some lovely people. The teacher was Janey Hayden. A lovely lady called Janine passed onto me some historical items for me to use for my NaFAS Diploma. Here is my design and some of the others. Oh and Pat's trifle was lush.

Well been a busy week, monday class was the pedestal arrangement. Then just a few flowers from the car boot sale yesterday that i made to sell, will show you my stall just as soon as i get the picture in my email box.

The roses, well they are just divine. Blizzard roses with a beautiful scent were just simply handtied, had to keep some for me.

Then the paeonies, ranunculus and snowflake gerbera, if i could eat them i would.

Kettering and District Flower Club

Last night we had our club meeting, a fab demonstrator called Bob Harris showed us his interpretation of a magic carpet ride, two of the arrangements shown are Holland and India, and there is also my entry to the competition where i came 2nd, by the way i did fill that bit of oasis you can see with some forget me nots out of the garden. A good night was had by all, and Michael as Tottenham made it into next years champions league.

Well here is the lovely handtied bouquet i made for one of our poorly friends from the Come Dine Girls, unfortunately Ally couldn't join us on the evening so Claire fondly known to me as Miss Tess of the Durbavilles delivered it. I also have started my evening class again and this was the result of my first arrangement for the new term.

It's been a few days since I have updated this, but i haven't had time to breathe. I am the President of the new Oakley Vale WI, have started my evening class again and i think for the first time i didn't get told off! I have got some piccys to upload which i will try and do this evening just to show you what i have been up to. One of the exciting thing in the next few days is sorting out the third bedroom into what will be mostly my workshop and a joint office...so so happy with that. Anyway hope you are all well. x

Oh and good news passed the first two tests in my home learning floristry course, the 2nd one i got 100% on which i was chuffed to bits with.

Looking forward to Sunday at Chatsworth House with Linda and watching Jonathan Moseley.

Well up at crack of dawn woken by the woof. Hey though the sun is out, and i have come down to a lovely cup of tea made by the boy Michael, and see my beautiful paeonies. Next to ranunculus, anemones and hyacinths, these have to be one of the nicest flowers. I am trying to grow them in the garden, I now have five tubers planted but very slow to appear this year. So here they are

Yesterday was full of surprises firstly how the delivery charge we were quoted for delivering flowers within London, lets just say you could walk from the florist to the front door of the recipient but they still want £11.00.

Second surprise was that the woof prefers the beef casserole to the lamb hotpot.

Thirdly I came home and was ruthless and removed anything i will never ever wear again or that is a size 14 kept in the hope that i would one day be there again. Oh no I am losing weight and to be down to a size 16 is happy enough for me, and with a new hair do next month...i think i have finally accepted my forties.

What a fab weekend, had friends Amanda and Robert come to visit we had a few vinos and a fab meal at Oriental Fusion. Today have been to Gates Nurseries and got a bargain £2.75 auralia plant. Then planted up some seeds, dwarf lupins, sweet peas, red and green brussels, black cherry tomatoes and cucumbers called Amanda. Woof home after staying with granny and grandad, and unfortunately Michael still has a really bad neck and tottenham are out of the cup...however dad had a fluke win on the national.

Last week i had one reverse into me. Now one went through a red light today and Michael hit the side of it. I am so relieved michael was not hurt, we have the remainder of the car on the drive awaiting repair and the bumper was in the garage. Here you can see for yourself.

Michael has been painting the back fence, a great shade of Tudor Black Oak, and the pink camelia buds are really standing out beautifully against them.

I have tidied the garage today and thankfully more room for my flower supplies. I also got bargain of the day thanks to a tip off by my friend Linda....10 vases for 25p from Asda.

Anyway off to indulge before the diet starts, Oh and we water shrew in the garden.

Phew, busy day, went off to St Ives this morning to have my hair cut, love going to see the Adiva ladies they really cheer you up and I walk out feeling tons more glam than when i first walked through the door. Got stuck going up the A1 to Oundle to look at Foxtail Lily. After a quick shop in Morrisons, went and had a cuddle with little Konnor and a cuppa with his mummy Karen. He has grown so much since i last saw him soooo gorgeous. Anyway back home shattered, cooking chicken to go with our salad tonight and then looking forward to tomorrow. Doing church flowers (watch this space) and birthday lunch for my friend Linda after, then chinese at michaels mums.

Not a good year for the tulips

Well last night i attended a superb Spring show held by the Wellingborough and District Horticultural Society, and with the bad weather we had unfortunately there was not a tulip in bloom for the category. Some beautiful specimens were on show from daffs to hellebores, unfortunately I came 4th out of 4 entries there. Nothing in the photo or small basket category. However, I did get a 2nd placing in the Table Arrangements which if you take out my multiple entries was 2nd out of 5.

Unfortunately my other entries were a bit too tall and were disqualified, however were praised and admired but unfortunately when i left my pink 12 inch ruler at work and guessed the height in cms this morning i realise that 12 inches is 30 cm and not 36 as i worked out...and I got an B in my O Level maths...shame on me.

Anyway they have been put to good use, the judge has taken them to be used at an event this weekend which for me is just as good as getting placed as lots more people will see and enjoy my hard work.

Michael did take some photos but unfortunately as my laptop does not have a memory reader I am in the hands of Mr Punter to download them for me. Hopefully not too soon.

The anticipation of it all

Tomorrow night is the Wellingborough and District Horticultural Society's Spring Show, a member's only competition for which i have been eagerly waiting for since their Autumn show last September.

News is Dad and Mum have kindly been to Oundle this morning to get my flowers, so I can tonight prepare 4-5 arrangements. Now why the high volume well due to the snow, my daffs and tulips in the garden i don't think will quite be ready. I also remain optimistic that the mild weather of today and tomorrow will create a miracle by tomorrow evening, but I think there is more chance of seeing a pig fly in the sky.

Well i will publish my works of arts over the next couple of days, and let you know whether there was any success for me or not. Here is keeping everything crossed :-)

Well if you thought the WI was all jam and jerusalem, you are mistaken. A group of 12 women from Corby last night formed the Oakley Vale WI. A lovely bunch of ladies all of varying ages from 30's upwards to more senior years arrived and showed great enthusiasm in forming our local WI.

Our next meeting will be on Tuesday 20th April and will be held again in the Lawson Room, Brooke Weston College (CTC).

Day out and a bit of gardening

Went to a new garden centre called Van Hage in Peterborough today, what a fab garden centre, brought a fab orchid and a pink cordyline plant which will come in useful for flower arranging.

Also planted a vanilla and raspberry hydranga plant, can't wait to see that when it flowers and a pink pampas grass.

How exciting lots of snowdrops and bluebells coming through.

Got some herbs too so going to plant in a tiered planter tomorrow, can't wait for the aroma to come through.

Well what a busy day it was, now i know how tiring a florists life is on very special occasions like Mother's Day. I then got home and made two bouquets so now after delivering one of them I have eaten my cheese quarterpounder and now on my third glass of rose.

A very nice surprise my gorgeous woof brought his mummy some lovely pink flowers with a butterfly in. He is now curled up by me.

Well I got what I thought was a good result at the flower club last night, I came
3rd in the class "What Easter Means to Me" which for me was fantastic. There were 5 or possibly 6 designs I can't remember, no separation between a novice and professional thats why the result was great.

I am entering now the Flower Show in Market Harborough on Saturday 22nd May, entry form filled in and will be hand delivered on Saturday. Very very exciting.

The display will go on i promise by tomorrow evening, bear with me a busy week and mothers day bouquets to make.

An odd combination i hear you cry. Well I have been totally obsessed the past few days with chocolate easter eggs all to do with my arrangement for the Market Harborough club competition "What easter means to me" all will be revealed once the competition is over. Also with pork pie. So in an attempt to be healthy today for my lunch i have an M & S simply fuller meal Thai Green Curry it is gorgeous, sitting here eating it now.

But also I have to share with you the anemone, that looks at me every day at my desk, how beautiful you are you remind me of a victorian lady with your green ruffled leafy collar at the top of the stem.

Well it is finally the end of the week. I had a good time working at Flowers In Style again today, and I made an arrangement and posy to sell in the shop. The arrangement is shown. Went to see Baby Konnor Heath this afternoon, what a cutie pie he is, i was fascinated by his tiny fingers and nails, he was so perfect.

Came home to a cup of tea, and my favourite viennese biccys from M & S, whilst indulging in the first episode I taped of the new series of Tori and Dean.

Michael and Watson are watching the recording of the Tottenham match from today so i am being a very tired lady of leisure lounging in bed and watching anything rubbish i can find on tv....bliss.

Had some lovely news today that our friends had a baby boy this morning, have made them a lovely blue and white bouquet. Sad news my friends family had to have one of their dogs put down today, so made them a couple of hand tied posies to cheer them up. Difficult day today in many ways but friends and families good wishes helped me through, and can smell a lovely cottage pie being made in the kitchen by my wonderful boyfriend which we shall be sharing with Watson of course, and proud father Patrick this evening. :-) Will post piccys later in the week and also my entry to the Kettering Flower Club competition which i also made today....shattered.

Nice day out with mum and dad today for a spot of lunch. Grim day though but at least the bulbs are poking their heads through in force now. Am cooking for tea Slow Roast Pork with black pepper topping, mashed potatoes and veg, and making a chocolate trifle....yes a Birds one, we had two left over from Christmas. I am also getting so excited as Baby Heath seems to be trying to make an entrance into the world today, must have had a sixth sense as got pressie and card today....best get my thinking cap on for the flowers :-) Off to catch up on this weeks episode of Greys Anatomy with a latte and marshmallows, oh and a cuddle from my woof.

I worked my first Saturday with Timea in her lovely shop called Flowers In Style in Market Harborough. I had a wonderful time, and some lovely people came into the shop. It is lovely to see how beautiful flowers make people smile. I am now going to have a relaxing evening with my lovely boyfriend and my woofly Watson, and Michael is going to cook me steak, chips with mushrooms and tomatoes, and we still have the wicked Devils Chocolate Cake i purchased yesterday from Gardiners Bakery in Kingsthorpe. It is so light that you don't realise how much you can consume. Have just opened my favourite strawberry and lime cider so time to relax. Sweet dreams x

Well Thursday today and one more day to go to the weekend. Busy weekend and week at work and home. Conference and workshop organisation at work, whilst my weekend starts with my new florist saturday job. Sunday probably spot of lunch with mum and dad whilst Michael is at work, then settle down with woof in the afternoon to make my arrangement for Wednesday night's March club competition theme is "Reflections - Winter has gone"....only just ha, ha. Then me and the boy are off to the X Factor Tour, flower club night for me and then mum and me are going to see Christine Walkden - plantswoman and horticulturalist talking at the Kettering Conference Centre about her way with gardening, then thankfully the weekend will be approaching with Sunday lying down in a dark room recovering from the what will be an enjoyable but hectic week.

David Austin Rose Garden Tour

Well busy busy busy, I have also organised a trip to David Austin Rose Gardens. In September the roses will be on their second bloom. One of my roses bloomed four times last year, and one was still flowering into December. We will all return home giddy from the heady scent of the roses.

Flower Workshop - 15th July 2010

Well I have been very busy the past couple of days firstly in my capacity of programme secretary for the Kettering & District Flower Club. I have one confirmed booking and one phone call to make tonight and then one last slot to fill for 2011...yes you heard it right 2011. Start 2012 in a bit!

Most exciting though is I have organised a private workshop with Sally Page who is florist, photographer and successful author of five books including "Flower Shops & Friends" & "The Flower Shop in your Garden". I already had the second aforementioned book, but in the last few days I received Flower Shops & Friends, what a fab read, read it from cover to cover before I went to bed. It follows Sally up and down the country during the course of one year, visiting a florist each month and entering the life of that florist with customers and anecdotes. It is a truly charming piece of work, with some fantastic pictures.

Anyway I have booked Sally for a private workshop in July to be held at my home and am thoroughly looking forward to it.

It's Monday morning and a week today is March 1st. All i can still see around me is snow and on the way to work falling snow. As I write this it is brightening up, can i ask for a glimmer of hope from the sky?

Dad started his job today, and told me there was lots of laurel shrubbery that he has to look after and trim. Em wondered knew there was a reason i was so keen for him to get the job ha ha. It will come in useful though for my competitions.

Oh dear, i really thought the snow was thawing and that was that however how wrong i was, the snow has been falling again this morning, the cars are covered and the little spring bulbs that were poking through yesterday now have a snow blanket. I hope this is the last of it, I am entering a spring show in 4 weeks and i really need my daffs and tulips to grow.

I have returned home from a very exciting visit to a lady called Timea who owns a florist shop in Market Harborough. She is giving me the opportunity to work with her on Saturdays for a few weeks and I am very very excited. Timea is a lovely lady and her shop Flowers in Style is lovely.

Also on Tuesday I have my first meeting as a committee member of the Kettering Flower Club.

Pink is the new spring

Well the snow is thawing, and the sun is out it is a beautiful day. Spring i do find is i think the nicest time of year for flowers, here installed into the window for all to admire outside, inside, Watson from his seat are some beautiful pink hyacinths, white and dark purple tulips garnished with some pussy willow. The pink hyacinths have the most beautiful fragrance. I have also brought for my desk at work, a beautiful pink aqua rose, pink anemones and included one of those fragrant pink hyacinths, they will be in situ in a pink jug.....bliss.

Spring

Well its Sunday 14th February and yet another dreary day, but there is hope of better times ahead. I have the first snowdrops in our front and back garden. The pussy willow tree is starting to come out, and finally my hellebores are showing their pretty faces. There are crocus's and daffodils poking their heads out of the ground. As I sit here I can also see one of our two robin visitors to the garden having a look around. We have some beautiful birds visit us, I saw a chaffinch as well as the daily blue and great tits that come to steal their peanuts.

Valentine's Day is the day of love, I always wonder why it is just the one day we all make an extra special effort, and not throughout the year. Love can be one of the happiest feelings we have in life. Here is one of my valentine creations inspired by a workshop i went to at the Market Harborough flower club on Wednesday evening.
